Look after your bed and it will look after you.
by Jenny PetersA good bed, and more importantly a good mattress should last many years, in the region of ten or so, before it starts to become uncomfortable.
That said, many mattresses will start to show signs of wear after just a few years use.
This can be minimised by turning your mattress regularly, both from left to right and top to bottom . This will help spread the wear on the individual springs. In addition you should try to avoid sitting on the edge of the mattress, and your bet should not be used as a trampoline (often a hard rule to enforce on younger children)
Even with good care and regularly turning, there will come a time when your current mattress just is not as comfortable as it once was.
One option is to replace the mattress or even the entire bed, however another option is to buy a memory foam mattress topper which should bring a new lease of life to your existing bed.
